Hindustani music fest

It will rain ragas from July 16 to 19.

SGS Sabha and Sri Guru Ganayogi Panchakshara Sangeet Yogashram Trust (Chennai) (Ph: 9444188076) have organised a Hindustani Music Festival in celebration of the birthday of Sri Hanagal Kumara Shiva Yogi, Panchakshara Gawai and Pandit Puttaraj Gawai, and in memory of Sri and Smt. J.S. Prabhu and V.E. Chetty. The fest will be held at SGS Sabha Hall, No. 55 (old no.16), Habibullah Rd., T.Nagar, from July 16 to 19.

On the opening day, the events which begin at 5.30 pm include lighting of kuthuvilakku by V.L. Narasimha Rao Voora (managing director, Voora Property Pvt. Ltd.), address by the chief guest V.R. Devika (managing trustee, Aseema) and a vocal recital by Kiran Kamath (Bombay) from 7 pm to 9 pm

The programmes scheduled for July 17 are Punya Srinivas’s veena recital (6.30 - 7.30 pm) followed by a session of ghazals presented by O.S. Arun (7.45 – 9 pm). Debi Prasad Ghosh will be on the sarod on July 18 (6 – 7.30 pm) and Nishikant Barodekar on the tabla, and from 7.45 – 9 pm it’s vocal time with Prakash Salunke.

The festival makes an early beginning on July 19, the final day, at 9.30 am with V. Premalatha’s welcome speech and goes on till the evening.

S.N. Bhatt, member, BBC Plaza, will be the chief guest. S.P. Balasubramanyam, playback singer, presents the introductory address. A one hour vocal recital by Shraddha Jain at 10.30 am will be followed by Venkatesh Kumar’s from 11.30 am – 1 pm.

The introductory speech of K.R. Kamath (president, SGS Sabha) and garlanding of the portrait of Sri and Smt J.S. Prabhu is at 6 pm.

Nishikant Barodekar’s tabla solo follows and goes on till 7.30 pm after which Lata V. Kulkarni’s vocal concert takes place from 7.45 – 9 pm.
