Annual festival
The 67th annual festival of music and dance of Sri Thyagaraja Festival Committee, K.T. Road, Tirupati, will be held from July 26 to August 4.
Musicians Chingelput Ranganathan and Yella Venkateshwara Rao will be conferred the title, ‘Saptagiri Sangeetha Vidwanmani’ on the occasion. The title carries a citation, shawl, gold medal and a cash award of Rs. 5000 (contributed by P. Obul Reddy).
The ten-day festival will be inaugurated on July 26 by V.V. Sundaram, chief organiser, Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival, USA. Sadas will be held on August 2 when I.V. Subba Rao, IAS, state election commissioner, AP, will confer the title on the awardees.
A series of music and dance recitals and a special event of Varakari Sampradya abhang bhajan by Ganapathi Thukaram Maharaj will be featured during the period. The highlight of the programme is, for the first time compositions of five eminent vaggeyakaras will be dealt with in detail by B.M. Sundaram.
