Mellifluous vocal recital
|
The concert was a treat of classicism.
|
Musical fervour Chaitra Sairam.
Chaitra Sairam of Chennai in the company of artistes of about her same age group between 25 and 30, rendered a vocal recital for Visakha Music and Dance Academy at Kalabharathi recently. The trio made it a delicious treat of classicism. After intense training in Carnatic vocal from renowned vocalist Bombay Jayashree, Chaitra began singing in public along with her and soon became a graded artiste of Akashvani.
A.G. Venkata Subrahmaniyam
and Delhi Sairam also
from Chennai were the artistes
who kept excellent
company on violin and mridangam
respectively.
After rendering Todi Adi
Tala Varnam in the two tempos
with brief alapana and
swaram, she rendered Ambi
Dixithar's Ganapathe (Kalyani)
with sweet alapana and
swaram. Then after devoutly
rendering Sree Mathrubhootham
of Deekshitar (Misra
Eka, Kannada), she nicely
elaborated Syamasundaranga
of Tyagaraja (Dhyanyasi) with
scholarly alapana, neravu and
swaram in the two tempos.
Syama Sastry's Paalinchukamakshi
(Madhyamavathi)
next, was marked with scholarly
expression of manodharma
by way of alapana that
brought out the intricacies of
ragabhava, neravu and swaram
in the two tempos
which fortified the Sahitya
Sangeethabhavas embedded
in the composition. Similar
was the Ragam, Thanam and
Pallavi (Devi Sree Raja Rajeswari,
Sankaree Tripura
Sundari) in Ranjani set to
Jhampe taalam in Khandanada.
The concluding swaram
rendered in ragamalika
constituted of Sreeranjani
and Amrithavarshini stood
testimony for her command
on the attributes of different
scales of music. Subrahmaniyam
on violin and Sairam on
mridangam while following
and playing their turns enhanced
the grandeur. Dulcet
rendering of a bhajan in
Sindhubhairavi and a thillana
constituted the lilting
tailpiece.
