Melody with promise

P. SRINIVASA GOPALAN

Sandya Sree’s recital was both planned and excuted well.

Well sung Sandya Sree

Sri Karthikeya Gana Sabha, a newly-firmed sabha by Dudduganapathi who hails from a music family from Tarnaka, featured a vocal recital by upcoming artiste Dharani Sandya Sree. The concert was the second monthly recital and was held at Teachers Education auditorium, Andhra Mahila Sabha.

Sandya, a disciple of noted violinist Akella Mallikarjuna Sharma, showed a lot of promise in her performance. With a rich melodious voice and good understanding of manodharma, Sandhya began her recital with a balanced Khambhoji atatala varnam Sarasijhanabha. Gananayakam in Rudrapriya of Deekshitar was next to come with a brief swaram.

Sandhya has the habit of selecting at least one rare krithi in her concerts and Rakshimpa ve in Mayamalavagowla was one which was neatly presented with good bhavam. Chandra Jyothi was essayed for a neat alap and Thyagaraja’s Bhagayanayya was the krithi with mathematic al swaraprastaram in it. Sree Rama namame in Atana of Ramadasu was another catchy item. Thodi was taken for a detailed expansion and here the artiste presented knowledgeable ragam with good phrases of the ragam.

Swathi Thirunal’s Sarasijhanabha murare in Misrachapu was well-executed and with well-planned calculations in the swarakalpanai. This was followed by a brief Ragam Tanam Pallavi in the ragam Nagaswaravali. This is a complex raga for expansion and Sandya did well in ragam and tanam, for which she has done her homework very well. The pallavi Sada Na Moralimparadha set to Adi talam with three akshara eduppu was presented neatly with ragamalika swarakalpana.

Rajeshakar on the violin, who also hails from Akella School, did well with his accompaniment and his thodi and nagaswaravali improvised the concert. The young mridangist Mehar Srinivas also lent neat support.

The final attractions of the concert included Srinivasa Thiruvenkata mudayam, followed by Ramududhbhavinchinadau in Yadukula Khambhoji and Manave mantralayam in suddha saranga, which were elegantly presented.

On the whole Sandya’s concert showed lot of promise with good teamwork.
