Tribute to Devulapalli

It was a day to remember the father of `Bhava Kavitam'.



Speeches to remember The book Telugu Bhasha Vaibhavam has them all

Devulapalli Krishna Sastry was the harbinger of the era of `Bhava Kavitvam' in Telugu literature. He is remembered for his outstanding books like Krishna Paksham, Pravsaam, Mahati, Amrutha Veena and translation of Tamil Tiruppavai into Telugu with the title Sri Andallu Tiruppavu Kirtanalu and also for the outpouring of tasteful songs for Telugu cinema. On the occasion of his 112th Jayanthi, memorial programmes were held at Thyagaraya Ganasabha, timed with the celebrations of Andhra Pradesh Formation Day.

Rasanjali held one in the mini theatre of Thyagaraya Ganasabha and Kinnera Art Theatres.

On the occasion, Kinnera brought out a book from the speeches made by different Telugu scholars. The book titled Telugu Bhasha Vaibhavam and was was released by C. Narayana Reddy. Former Governor of Karnataka V. S. Ramadevi was the chief guest. Other literary personalities Kavita Prasad, Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, Anumandla Bhumaiah, Vice Chancellor of Telugu University and Kinnera' president and former DGP, R. Prabhakara Rao spoke of the contribution of Devulapalli Krishna Sastry to Telugu literature. There was a Kuchipudi dance ballet Ma Telugu Talliki Malle Poodanda.

In the other function held at Kala Subba Rao mini theatre of Thyagaraya Ganasabha, Rasanjali organised a musical programme under the title Devulapalli Gnaapakaalu. Surekha Murthy, Sasikala Swamy and Himabindu rendered Devulapalli songs that included pleasant numbers like Ramacharanam, Siva Sivayanarada, Kailasagirinundi Kasikai, Nee Adugulekaaka, Padamule Chalu Rama, Jaya Jaya Priya Janani. All the songs were set to music by Palagummi. C. Narayana Reddy, Mrunalini, Nidamarthi Nirmala, M. Nagabhushana Sarma and others shared these memories of Devulapalli and paid tributes to the literary genius.
