Focus on Mysore composers

A symposium on the topic ‘Composers of Mysore’ will be organised on November 8, 10 a.m. at the Music Academy (Mini Hall). Held in memory of veteran musicologist and well-known critic B.V.K. Sastry, the meet will be inaugurated by N. Murali, president, The Music Academy, and Managing Director, The Hindu. Scholar B. M. Sundaram will preside. The programme is being held under the aegis of the Sri B.V.K. Sastry Memorial Committee in collaboration with the Karnataka Ganakala Parishad and Ananya.
Four eminent musicians will present the works of some Mysore composers — R. Vedavalli will demonstrate the compositions of Mysore Sadashiva Rao. D. Balakrishna, will play Veena Seshanna’s songs on the veena. Suguna Purushothaman and Dr. T. S. Sathyavathi have chosen the works of Mysore Vasudevachar and Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, respectively, for their demonstration. Senior critic and scholar Mysore V. Subramanya will preside over the symposium.
