Awards for Bests
The 58th annual awards function for the ‘Cine Bests of 2008’ and ninth annual TV awards presented by Film Fans’ Association, will be held on November 8, 7.05 p.m. at Kamaraj Arangam. Justice T.N. Vallinayagam, former judge, Karnataka High Court, presides and distributes the awards. N. Najimudeen, CEO, Barnas International Pvt Ltd and actor G. Jayachitra will be the guests of honour. Actors Sivakumar and Lakshmi receive awards for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Filmdom.’ Manorama felicitates.
‘Dasavathaaram’ bags the Best Motion Picture Award, the Best Actor for Kamal Haasan and Best Director for K.S. Ravikumar. The Best Character Actor honour goes to Prakash Raj for ‘Abhiyum Naanum’ and Best Supporting actor is Pasupathy for ‘Kuselan’ and in the female category Pooja receives it for ‘Naan Kadavul.’
Sasikumar has been selected as the Best New Face (Male) while the Best New Face (Female) is Swathi. Both have won it for their performances in ‘Subramaniapuram.’
The best Malayalam film is ‘Oru Pennum Randannum’ and the Telugu Best is ‘Gamyam.’
The list of recipients in the various other categories and other languages of the South is both impressive and lengthy.
Abhirami Theatre (old) and Sangam and Sai Shanthi (new) are among those adjudged as Best maintained theatres in the city. In the districts the trophies go to Narayana Murthy theatre, Kanchipuram, and Bombay Theatre, Tirunelveli, besides Sri Murugan (Ambattur) and Shanmuga (Moolakkadai). (Awards for other districts will be announced later.) AVM and Prasad are the ‘Best Maintained Studios’ in the city.
The award winners are requested to be present to receive the award in person.
