Music of life

Siby Malayil's ‘Violin' is a musical love story starring Asif Ali and Nithya Menon.

The shooting of director Siby Malayil's ‘Violin' is going on inside a beautiful house near Fort Kochi. The scene being shot has actors Asif Ali and Vijayaraghavan in conversation on the veranda. In the meantime, the unit prepares for the next scene to be filmed.

“This is a musical love story about two youngsters, Aby (Asif Ali) and Angel (Nithya Menon). Music is their life. It brings them together as well,” says veteran Siby, who has several hits in Malayalam to his credit. He adds: “Although the protagonists are young in this movie, it's more of a family oriented theme that tackles certain intense relationships.”

The story line of ‘Violin' is rather interesting. Aby's dad, a guitarist, was a part of Kochi's rock music circuit. He has, however, turned into a junkie and has fallen off the music scene. Aby, a talented musician, has arrived from his native village to Kochi. He meets Angel, a violinist who lives with her two aunts. Her late mother also played the violin. Angel's violin is dear to her as it belonged to her mother.

An equal music

Says Asif about his character in the movie: “Both Aby and Angel share rather traumatic childhoods. It takes time for them to become close to each other as Angel is hesitant when it comes to befriending men. Music, however, draws them together.”

Adds Nithya about her character in ‘Violin': “I don't know how to explain my character without giving away the suspense element of the story. She lives with her aunts, who takes care of her and she is an excellent violinist.”

Vijayaraghavan plays Simon, the owner of a sea food export company. Jagathy Sreekumar, Sreejith Ravi, Chembil Asokan, Lakshmi Krishnamoorthy and Reena Basheer are in the cast.

‘Violin' is being produced under the banner of AOPL Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Cinematographer is Manoj Pillai.

Lyrics by Rafeeq Ahmed have been set to music by Biji Bal. Bollywood composer Anand Raj Anand has tuned one of the songs. Stills are by Sreeni Manjeri.
