'Temple, Mosque in Varanasi on terror threat'

Ballia (PTI): Kashi Vishwanath temple and Gyanwapi mosque in Varanasi are on the target of terrorists, who have spread their base in eastern Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here on Thursday.

"The activities of terror outfits have increased in eastern Uttar Pradesh after which strict vigil is being maintained in sensitive districts. They can target Kashi vishwanath temple and Gyanwapi mosque," Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Pravin Kumar told reporters here

The security of both the religious places have been strengthened following the threat.

He said terrorist organisations have spread their network in three districts of Varanasi zone and intelligence agencies have been alerted to deal with the situation.

Kumar, however, did not elaborate about the name of districts and precautionary measures taken by the force.
