Filipino evenings

At home in Kerala: Johanno

Filipino music is all set to give a sizzle to the evenings in the beach resort of Kovalam. A three-member band from the island nation, 2nd Nature, is led by Sonny Edwin Reyes, Johanno and Mary Kaye Casimiro, are the other crooners.

Tourists who stepped into the Osheen Restaurant of Kovalam Hotels for a candlelight dinner were wowed by the band which belted out songs like `Shalala.. ', `La Bamba...', `Lambada...', `Macarena...' and `Can't get you out of my head...'.

Old-time favourites to new songs in English, Latin, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Spanish are also being rendered.

The band, however, does not play rock. "We are working on Italian and German songs and will soon be adding them to the list,'' says Reyes.

``Kerala is similar to the Philippines in many ways and we do not have the feeling that we are in an alien land'', remarks Johanna, who has performed in Udaipur earlier.

The Alisha number, `Made in India...', is the only song from an Indian language being rendered by the band at present. The crooners will be in Kovalam for next three months.

"We have been listening to some Malayalam songs and plan to surprise guests with a hit number soon'', smiles Reyes.
