Training for empowerment

FOR THOSE with hearing and speech impairments, learning a skill can be useful, for it makes them self-reliant and confident.

The computer training provided by `Deaf Leaders', (a unit of Literacy Education and Resource Centre for the Hearing Impaired) and the Cheran Region Christian Society for Disabled Children (CRCS) was one such effort.

The four-month training, sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, was provided with the assistance of the Government Polytechnic for Women. The Principal, Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Rajeswari Mariappan, gave away the certificates to those who completed the training.
