Film festival on a green theme
THERE IS more to this environment than just being "green". Including colours of the earth as well as voices from the ground, Toxic Links brings to the screen "Quotes from the Earth" - an environmental film festival with a difference.
A three-day festival, it aims to provide viewers with the complete picture of environmental issues in India. With documentaries that changed the debate on environment as well as new entrants in the field, scheduled for screening, the festival will focus on different issues, regions, eco-systems and struggles.
Living up to its name, the festival brings "quotes" from real voices, who speak different languages - from Gujarati to Tamil. Divided into three main issues of `Water', `Hunger' and `Survival', the festival showcases people who are fighting to save the environment, but never qualify for awards. Giving those who never get a chance to air their opinion, it includes them in the debate, even if not present.
Using films as a debating point, the festival also has panel discussions each evening where academicians, grass root activists and filmmakers find solutions to save the environment. The films to be screened include "Voices from Baliapal" by Vasudha Joshi and Ranjan Palit, "Words on Water" by Sanjay Kak, and "Development Flows from the Barrel of the Gun", among others.
