Green cover and youth

Back from an adventurous trek

COMMITMENT PLAYS a vital role in any task ahead, says the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and Tamil Nadu STF Chief, K. Vijay Kumar. He was participating at a function organised at the Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science (SRCAS) for women, to felicitate the first all girls trekking team of the college that went to the Western Ghats - Goa Trekking Expedition recently.

Referring to the trekking expedition, he said that one should think of the rich experience such programmes provided, rather than get bogged down by the little inconveniences that one might encounter en route.

He lauded the SRCAS and the YHAI - Cotton City Unit for organising such events enabling them to go all out in search of adventure and fun. He called upon the students to synergise their mental, emotional and physical abilities to emerge as winners in every sphere of life.

He also gave away prizes and medals to the team that went trekking.

The principal of the college, S. Savitri, said that the college was willing to organise more such events to motivate the girls take up adventurous programmes.

Thanking the SRCAS for its overwhelming response, besides the national trekking events to the Himalayas (Chanderkhani pass and Sarpass) and Goa, the trek co-ordinators assured to organise a number of such treks in the scenic Western Ghats that abuts Coimbatore and the Nilgiris.

Besides trekking programmes, the YHAI was also planning to launch a Mass Afforestation Drive to create awareness on the need to enhance green cover. The next step would be to involve the youth hostellers in weeding out the menace of plastics, they said. The objective was to involve youngsters in appreciating nature in its pristine glory, they said.
