Interim unity?

Has unity really been established in the Congress party in Kerala? Congress leaders would aver that the settlement formula has restored unity in the party.

"The image of the veteran leader, K. Karunakaran, and the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, sharing a platform is enough for the grassroots workers to rally around," one of the senior leaders observed.

That's what the party leadership hoped to achieve. But the usual boisterousness witnessed during such occasions was missing at the KPCC changeover function.

The decibel level of slogan shouting hailing them was considerably low. Some of the leaders were there just for courtesy sake.

The question is: does the ordinary Congress worker share his leaders' sentiments?

The new KPCC president, P. P. Thankachan, though an interim incumbent, is confident that matters could be set right step by step and in time for the Lok Sabha elections.
