NEW FILM songs are aired on radio every day. But, have you heard of a live film audio release? This novel venture was for cinematographer P.C. Sriram's much-awaited third directorial project, `Vaanam Vasappadum.'

The song album of the movie, starring Poongkothai and Karthik Kumar, was released by lyricist Vairamuthu at Radio Mirchi's station, last Thursday. The music was composed by the late music director Mahesh. His wife, Chitra Mahesh, received the first copy.

After the brief cassette release function, listeners called in to speak to the artistes associated with the movie. Writer Sujatha and Sundar Babu, co-music director who completed the music recording of the movie, were also present. Produced by R.K. Ragunath, the film is slated to be released in the middle of April.

Last week also witnessed the release of another `new' audiocassette.

The audio tape of `New,' a film by director turned actor-cum-producer S.J. Surya, was released amid a star-studded audience.

Actor Vijay received the first copy from A.R. Rahman's mother, Kareema, and Surya's mother, Anandam Pandian. While the other speakers, including actor Silambarasan, actresses Trisha, Simran and Kiran, spoke about the movie, director T. Rajendren called upon directors and producers to name the films in Tamil.

Besides the audience also got a glimpse of the movie's script, thanks to the movie's director, Surya, who briefed the audience about the storyline.

"This is a story of an eight-year-old boy who is married off. How and why are the questions which will be answered on the silver screen," he added with a smile.
