Passport to ...

At the launch of a new film `Passport.'

THERE WAS a different level of atmosphere at AVM studios on Friday. The place resembled a passport office or a foreign consulate, where security was tight. Signboards were placed in order to lead the people to the main venue. A couple of uniformed men with AK 47 rifles were seen at the entrance. There was a security check at two places, where people had to pass through a metal detector. A special squad with dogs escorted the VVIPs. All this and more were seen on the pooja day for the film `Passport', a film to be produced by Thamizh Kani Films and Kumudam Movies. This will be the fourth venture of R. Balu, who earlier directed `Kalamellam Kadhal Vazhga,' `Unnudan' and `Anbe Un Vasam.'

The director said his film depicts how an eighth standard student, after getting his passport, faces various problems in leaving the country and also of the difficulties he faces in the foreign land. From the beginning of the project, they wanted to be different so they designed invitations in the form of a `passport.' Romance also prevails in the film.

Siva, Gourav and Shanthi Rao are the new faces to play the lead roles. The known faces will be Manivannan, Vadivelu, Vaiyapuri, Charlie, Senthil, Rekha, Manorama, Meera Krishnan, Rachana, Vadivukarasi, Madan Bob and Pandu. Kichas is the cameraman, Uvan Shanker Raja is the music director and V.T. Vijayan is in charge of editing. The dances will be choreographed by `Cool' Jayant and Raju Sundaram. The dialogues have been written by Vaigai Raja. The director Balu has also handled story and screenplay. The film is produced by Kottampatti K.S. Sultan and `Kumudam' Kumar of Malaysia. Attending the function, K.R. (Kothandaraman), veteran producer and director, formally launched the film production.
