It's Pottermania on POGO

THERE'S MAGIC in the air as "Pottermania" takes over the popular children's channel, POGO. It's time to visit the confusing corridors of Hogwarts as for the first time on Indian television, the blockbuster "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" will premiere on POGO on May 28 at 7-30 p.m.

To start off the evening, in addition to airing the blockbuster, Potter fans will be treated to a special episode on the making of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" on May 28 at 6-30 p.m. To transport fans into the world created by J.K. Rowling, contests have also been launched on the channel. Viewers can also win exciting prizes such as a trip to London, tickets to the third Harry Potter movie - "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" - that is all set to be released, Harry Potter movie merchandise, movie posters from the latest instalments and much more.

Part of "May Movie Magic" on the channel besides the presence of Harry Potter, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" will also be screened on May 21 at 7-30 p.m.

"According to a recent survey conducted in Britain, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" are included in the top five family movies. Our programming strategy has been to provide the best of premium content available to viewers and POGO continues to fulfil that promise with the May Movie franchise," says senior vice-president and general manager, Tuner Entertainment Networks Asia, Ian Diamond during a press conference in New Delhi on Monday.

Besides the premiere of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", there's a lot more happening on the popular children's channel. Attempting to localise the look of POGO the channel has introduced "two new faces" - 24-year-old Niall Sadh and 22-year-old Nisha Lalvani who will host "Prime Zone". While the programme would be launched officially on August 6, the duo would be visible during the screening of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" on May 28 when they would be "linking" the movie.

"We have kept a two and a half hour block for "Prime Zone" which will be a new place for kids to hang out. It would be a fun, dynamic and energetic zone - like the image of the channel. And the two new faces would add the "POGO spin" to the channel. We would also be trying to get as many children in front of the camera for this. And for their bit of fame on POGO, all they have to do is write to us," said Mr. Diamond.

Yet more attempts are on by the channel to add the touch of localisation. While "Prime Zone" would be hosted in "Hinglish", the channel is currently also engaging with Indian production companies to launch original productions. POGO is looking at dramatically increasing Hindi on the channel and by the end of the year, 80 per cent of the programming would be in Hindi. For the future, there are plans also to introduce a completely Indianised version of one of the popular non-animated and internationally produced show, already on POGO.
