Helping cops cope with hazards
WHAT WITH Erode being one of the congested towns in the state and the vehicular population there ever so on the increase, air and noise pollution is also pretty high.
Apparently, policemen, especially traffic constables, on the road for at least fourteen hours a day, are victims of many a respiratory problem.
In this regard, the Maruthi Medical Centre and Hospitals (MMCH) in Erode along with the Pollution Control Board and Erode Jaycees conducted the audiogram test and lung screening camp for the police personnel.
The Superintendent of Police, P. Balasubramanian, inaugurated the `Environmental Health Check Up for the Traffic Policemen' at the hospital on Friday.
The SP said such camps would help policemen keep themselves fit. He thanked the hospital authorities and appreciated Erode Jaycees for their gesture.
Explaining the objective of the programme, the chairman of MMCH, M.N. Sadasivam said that about 100 policemen faced with occupational hazard were being treated. He said lungs, heart, ears, nose and throat were tested and treated free of cost.
Pulmonary Functional Test and Tread Mill Test were also carried out on all these police constables, sub-inspectors and inspectors. Lady doctors examined women constables.
The president of the Erode Jaycees D.M. Thiruvasagam said that after the test, the constables were also provided medicines free of cost.
