Successes in August

A.V.M. Saravanan releases the `Vasool Raja' audiocassette. Kamal Hassan receives the first copy in the presence of the music director, Bharadwaj, and the film director, Saran.

ACTUALLY IT was a cassette release function for Kamal Hassan's next movie `Vasool Raja MBBS.' It started with a magic show. Then came a skit and a snake dance.

The show then moved on to a concert by music director Bharadwaj.

By the time, the cassette release occasion came, almost every one was exhausted and in a mood to leave. They stopped short of leaving as they wanted to hear the speeches. Director Saran said he was enjoying the association with Kamal Hassan. The actor seems to have some affinity to the month of August, said producer A.V.M. Saravanan. "Forty four years ago, Kalathur Kannamma where Kamal started off as a boy actor was released on August 14. About 22 years later in another August came his mega success `Sakalakalavallavan.' Now after 22 years `Vasool Raja' is to be released."

Actor Prabhu and Vairamuthu both made similar requests. They wanted some university to offer an honorary doctorate to Kamal for his vast knowledge of cinema.

Then came a surprise from a member of the audience. Up walked Sathyabhama deemed university Chancellor, Jeppiaar, who announced his decision to confer an honorary doctorate to Kamal Hassan.

Replying to the felicitations, Kamal Hassan said that he knew only about cinema and nothing else.

"I know a little bit of cinema and that too because of Ananthu (one of his close friends in the start of his career)," the actor said thanking everyone for the gesture.
