Enter the world of visual effects

GOOD NEWS for students opting for the visual effects industry.

"There is great demand for quality work in fields like animation, visual effects and game development because of the presence of a strong entertainment industry and talented pool of artistes here," said Madhusudhanan, Visual Effects Advisor for Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology (ICAT), Chennai.

Speaking at a seminar on `Career Opportunities in Animation, Visual Effects and Game Development' at Hotel Heritage Inn here recently, he said that quality manpower was available only in India and China in these fields.

"Of the two, India has a competitive advantage due to the presence of a strong entertainment industry and natural creativity in its people," he pointed out.

More than 100 students participated in the interactive session. Appreciating the changes incorporated by ICAT in the visual effects curriculum, Madhusudhanan said there was immense scope for development in industries such as health, food and entertainment.

He said the students should look for jobs not only in the Indian companies but also abroad since animation, visual effects and game development industries had started adopting the outsourcing model.

"The place of work for an international movie may be India, Europe, USA or New Zealand," he added.

Replying to questions from participants, he said that more women opted for visual effects industry as a career option. "As many as 23 ladies worked in the Aalavandhaan project."

V. Swaminathan, Manager, Admissions, briefed about the admission procedure in ICAT. After three levels of filtering that include eligibility, entrance test and admission interview, students would get admission.

Entrance test will be held on August 1 in Chennai, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Coimbatore. The last date for receiving filled-in application forms is July 31. For further information, log on to www.icat.ac.in and download the application form or call 044- 52037755.
