Throbbing with thrill
THE RAJA Muthiah Mandram auditorium in Madurai burst at its seams with over 1,000 students from various schools spread across eight southern districts occupying every available space to participate in The Hindu Young World Quiz Competition on Thursday.
As most of the outstation teams had either parents or teachers accompanying them to the venue, it became all the more difficult for the organisers to provide seats for all. But they managed to accommodate all of them by providing seats in the outer corridor of the auditorium. Just to house their interest in viewing the event the organisers had also screened live the proceedings of the programme.
Altogether it was an eventful afternoon with the quizmaster, V.V. Ramanan, keeping the audience in high spirits with his witty remarks. The preliminary round was a written test to select six finalists from the huge gathering of participants.
The chief guest of the evening, V. Irai Anbu, Commissioner for Disciplinary Proceedings, gave an inspiring speech to the students about competitive examinations and how to tackle them. He also interacted with the students and patiently cleared their doubts pertaining to Civil Services examinations.
From mythology to epic, science to history, wildlife to inventions, queries flowed from one end and the audience came out with some brilliant answers to grab the riches.
With the attractive prizes on offer, the six finalists tried their best to claim the top spot. At the end of the six rounds in the finals, Mahatma Matriculation Higher Secondary School emerged top while TVS Lakshmi Matriculation Higher Secondary School and V.M.J. Higher Secondary School finished second and third respectively.
