Kumaran birth centenary fete
An yearlong birth centenary celebrations of the martyr, Tirupur Kumaran (1904-1931), who died during the Freedom struggle, will conclude this week. Literary associations, prominent personalities, business tycoons and social organisations of this town have formed a committee.
At a function to be held at the South Rotary Club hall on January 10, Ponnambala Adigalar of Kunrakudi mutt will release an anthology of poems, Kumaran kaaviyam, written by Makudeswaran. Writer Jayaganthan will receive the first copy. K. R. Muthusamy, who participated in an agitation in New Delhi demanding the Union Government to consider Tamil a classical language, will be honoured at the function.
The Tirupur South Rotary Club and Tamil Nadu Freedom Fighters Samithi are organising the function with the support of the Tiupur kalai elakkiya peravai, Vetri Thamizhar peravai, Tirupur Tamil Association, Tirupur Muthamizh Sangam, Kanavu elakkiya vattam, Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Association, Tamil Nadu Art and Literary Forum and Pathiam Elakkiya Thalam.
