A treat for cricket lovers

HERE'S SOMETHING to cheer up cricket-lovers. Starting 8-30 a.m. on January 10, popular TV channel -- SET MAX -- will telecast live from Melbourne the World Cricket Tsunami Appeal One-Day Match between ICC World XI and ACC Asian XI.

The special match is part of the efforts being made by all the cricketing nations along with the International Cricket Council to raise funds for those affected from last month's tsunami catastrophe.

The 50-over day-night match will see some of the biggest names in cricket from India, Pakistan, Australia, England, New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh face each other for a noble cause.

While the Asian ACC XI is being captained by Sourav Ganguly with Bob Woolmer as its coach, Australian skipper Ricky Ponting will lead the ICC World XI, being coached by one of Australia's greatest cricketer, Steve Waugh.

Top Asian stars including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sanath Jayasuriya, Yousuf Youhana, Muttiah Muralitharan and Virender Sehwag will try to establish their supremacy over the other team that comprises cricketers like Brian Lara, Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Matthew Hayden, Chris Cairns, Stephen Fleming, Glenn McGrath, Chris Gayle and Darren Gough.

Kunal Dasgupta, CEO of SET India Pvt Ltd, says: "We are privileged to be able to play our part by airing this extremely important and crucial One-Day match on MAX. This will be one of the many initiatives SET India Pvt Ltd is taking up towards providing relief to tsunami victims in South East Asia."

Commenting on the initiative, Ehsan Mani, ICC President, said: "MAX is a valued broadcast partner of the ICC and it is pleasing that it has agreed to broadcast this important match at very short notice in the region directly affected by this disaster. I hope that this match will help us to raise valuable funds to help the relief effort."
