`Zoom' gets on with some serious promotion

IF YOU prefer channel surfing over web surfing, you must have seen this TV channel by now.

"Zoom," which claims to be the country's first channel devoted to glamour, lifestyle and celebrities, held its "Zoom Live" road show here on Monday and Tuesday. Popular shows on the channel such as "Ek Rahe Vir" and "Dance Divas" were taken to the people. Seriously, that's what they call live shows these days. As distinct from reality shows on TV.

If you wonder "Vir who?" that's Vir Saran Das, we are told and he presents comedy with a contemporary twist. He feels we live in a country where so much is taboo and so much is left unsaid, that we laugh and talk about such subjects behind closed doors.

Vir attempts to remove the fourth wall from this closed room and make it a stage.

Most of his humour is inspired from and directed towards the carefree, fun-loving, loud and laughable people that we are, he says.

A comedian

Vir received training as a comedian and actor in the U.S. where he starred in over 25 plays spanning both the classical and contemporary genre. His first stand-up comedy special as a student was a big draw with over 600 people watching it each night, we are told.

Among others, Vir has performed at numerous professional comedy clubs and on luxury cruise liners.

Since his return to India in April 2003, Vir has performed close to 65 shows nationwide at various events.

Before coming to Zoom, he hosted shows for Star World, NDTV and Trendz.
