To provide Indian entrepreneurs, students, housewives and retired professionals a platform to trade globally, Baazee.com will integrate with eBay, the world's online marketplace, this month-end. From April 1, Baazee.com will have a new name: eBay India. The integration is described as significant as Indian buyers and sellers can now have access to a global trading community of 135 million registered users in 32 markets worldwide.
Through their eBay IDs, according to the company, Indians can enjoy a more stable and robust platform that will not only make their transactions more efficient but also ensure adequate safety measures through tools such as Turbo Lister and Selling Manager Pro.
At a press conference in the Capital on Tuesday, the country manager of Baazee.com, Avnish Bajaj, said: "Our community of users are extremely innovative, entrepreneurial and creative and we look forward to providing them with even greater economic opportunities by enabling them to trade globally."
As India is a hot destination for Non-Resident Indians and foreign importers for exquisite jewellery, embroidered hand-woven clothes, leather jackets and bags, music instruments and brass trumpets and telescopes, the merger is expected to act as an employment generator for those who seek to earn their livelihood through online trading. EBay, whose net revenues totalled 3.3 billion dollars last year, has a formidable reputation and the site registers more transactions that even some of the leading stock exchanges.
The Vice-President of eBay International, Gil Penchina, said eBay India offers a platform for the sale of goods and services for a diverse community of individuals and small businessmen. "We think that Baazee's local enterprise combined with our global know-how will do great things for India's e-commerce," added Mr. Penchina.
