Astounding memory
SHANU A. IS probably one of those gifted with a photographic memory. Or so he claims. And he is trying hard to enter the Guinness Book of Records.
A third-year student of Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, Shanu says that he has memorised the value of the mathematical constant Pi (3.14... ) to 50,000 decimal points. The current record is 42,195 decimal points, he says.
The college Principal, Jyothy John, says that the boy probably can remember what he claims. "We had taken a test up to 10,000 decimal points," he added.
Talking about his memory, he says that he can recall an ordered list of nearly 1,000 words, can remember the order in a pack of cards, names, faces or anything that he once sees.
"If I am listening, I do not need to take down notes in my class," says Shanu. Not many of his teachers in school were happy about it, he says. Son of P.S. Sobhana and A. Velayudhan, Professor of English in S.N. College, Chelannur, Kozhikode, Shanu says he was always interested in numbers and memory and would always spend time reading books on improving memory. "I wish to write a book on improving memory," he says about his plans.
