Madurai:
There have been umpteen number of environmental protection campaigns as the ever increasing pollution of land, air and water has disturbed the balance of nature thus affecting the well-being of general public.
Hence, it is imperative to evolve a system, which takes care of equilibrium of nature as well as enhancement of human life.
Exactly, that is what `Agnihotra' does.
But what does Agnihotra mean?
"It is a yagna a person has to perform during sunrise and set throughout his life to lead healthy life. When a person performs this yagna at the stroke of sunset or sunrise the ingredients he/she offers on the yagna purifies the atmosphere around 80-metre circumference and making available fresh air to breathe, which could be the only solution for all niggling ailments," says Deepak K. Parmar, an insurance surveyor, who is a regular `Agnihotri' (one who practices the yagna regularly).
"All other yagnas are time bound and is over after a stipulated time. But Agnihotra is not like that since sunset and sunrise is an ever-happening phenomenon around the globe. Agnihotra is never ending. This method comes from Rig Veda. The five elements of Nature, air, fire, land, water and ether have its effect on every human being. Hence, the equilibrium has to be maintained. Once the balance is gone then there will be a problem. As you inhale a polluted air it creates a lot of problem in your system. Once you purify the atmosphere by performing Agnihotra, you are free from all ailments," he explains.
Agnihotra is beyond caste, creed and religion. Anyone can perform it.
What all you need is a pyramidical copper pot, dry cow dung cake, two pinches of unbroken raw rice, two drops of pure cow ghee and two mantras.
"A lot of changes occur in nature during sunrise and sunset when the ultraviolet radiation is high. These sudden changes in atmosphere cause either good or bad effect on life on the earth. Sunrise and sunset are the smallest rhythmic cycle of nature. The disease resistance power of the human body is also influenced by the changes during these rhythmic circles due to light waves, electro magnetic powers and atmospheric pressures. So much so the curative quality of the medicines is also governed by these cycles," says Mr. Deepak.
The effect of the Agnihotra will last for 12 hours from the time of performing.
Hence in an attempt to create awareness on this unique exercise, The Agnihotra Campaign Committee in association with the Rotary Club of Madurai Down Town performed Agnihotra at the Gandhi Memorial Museum on Sunday.
