Vairamuthu's speech inspires young music directors

S.R. Ashok Kumar

CHENNAI: It all started with a minor hitch but that was also made to look like a blessing in disguise by poet-lyricist Vairamuthu.

Stating that the person who did not bring a match box with the candle to light the traditional lamp made him think more about the speech he should deliver, the poet delivered an inspiring speech. Vairamuthu was in high spirits and his talks gave a new hope to the up and coming music directors.

The occasion was the release of "Idhayapookkal" a music album by Muhund.

After receiving the first copy of the CD, M.S. Vishwanathan, music director, said "If a new music director came to me with an album, I used to hear only first two songs. This will usually help to judge a person's talent. But Muhund made me hear all the ten songs and I enjoyed each and every song in the album". Vairamuthu said he liked Muhund's politeness. "Though he is in the U.S., he does not look like that. Anyone who goes to the U.S. these days change his appearance immediately sporting long hair and wearing an ear-ring in one ear, frequenting discos and generally ending up a different person in life. But Muhund has not changed".

Singer Unni Menon, Palghat Ravi and others praised Muhund's effort.

Muhund passed out from the London Trinity College of Music. He learned jazz from Dr. Morgan. Later, he composed background score for plays "Kasu Mela Kasu" and "Kalavaram" in the U.S. and for a documentary film "For Straights Only. He won the `Best Composers Today' award from the M.A.T.C.
