TIRUPUR:
All the 700-odd dyeing and bleaching units here on Saturday stopped their operations following the order of the Madras High Court. The Dyers Association of Tirupur had asked its members to obey the orders without fail. In order to reduce the effluent discharged into river Noyyal, the HC ordered a few days ago to stop production on Saturdays and Sundays. Sources in the pollution control board said that all the units in and around Tirupur did not work on Saturday. The board will continue monitoring the implementation of the order.
Hearing on June 21
On an overage, all the dyeing and bleaching units in Tirupur discharges around 8 crore litres of treated effluent into river Noyyal, sources said. The case will come up before the HC for next hearing on June 21.
