The Project Directorate of Biological Control of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Bangalore, will conduct a national group meeting on `Biological Control of Pests' at Sugarcane Breeding Institute here from June 21 to 23.
Serious pests
According to a press release from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), in recent times serious pests such as the sugarcane woolly aphid, cotton boll worms, fruit borer of brinjal and ladies finger, cut worms on potato and cabbage, as well as several plant parasitic nematodes, crop diseases and weeds have become a major constraint for agricultural production.
The current scenario of extensive use of chemical pesticides has resulted in environmental pollution, in addition to serious human and animal health problems. The meeting would explore these issues. C. Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, will inaugurate the meet.
