Vikram, Asin at `Maja' inauguration

S.R. Ashok Kumar

A host of films with Asin in the lead slated for Deepavali release

BRIGHT BEGINNING: Vikram, Asin and other film stars at the inauguration of `Maja' in Chennai on Friday.

CHENNAI: The inauguration of Vikram's next mega-movie `Maja' began in a rather informal atmosphere on Friday. Though a lot of stars were present, Vikram and heroine, Asin were the centre of attention at the function.

Innovation

The organisers had come up with the novel idea of having the venue entrance look like a village setting. A model of a truck cabin stood at the gateway.

A row of women, who looked like foreigners and clad in sungadi saris, welcomed guests by applying `tilak' to the forehead. The seating arrangement of the set, conceived by art director Prabakaran, was either bare sand or cut portions of a tree.

Actor Vijay arrived at the venue well ahead of other stars. Prakash Raj too landed in time followed by Vikram. His entry created a buzz amidst the waiting scribes. Clad in casual wear, Vikram spoke to other guests before taking a seat.

The traditional lamp was lit by director Shabi, Asin, Vikram, producer Venkatesh Rockline and Prakash Raj. Asin was all smiles at the function.

And she had reasons to be happy. Asin stars as heroine opposite Vijay in `Sivakasi'. Asin's father Joseph Thottumkal told scribes that his daughter was also the heroine in Ajit Kumar's `Godfather', directed by K.S. Ravikumar All the films are slated for release on Deepavali. Looks like it will be a happy festival of lights for Asin.
