MOON SIGNS

Is it right to consider Amavasya auspicious as many do in Tamil Nadu, or to regard it as inauspicious as in Karnataka?

N. R. Venkataraman, Bangalore.

REASONS can be given for both views. Amavasya ends the Moon's waning phase, after which it grows in size and radiance making it auspicious. But since the Moon is dark that night, Amavasya can be seen as inauspicious. In Tamil Nadu, only certain functions are performed. Weddings, moving to a new house, Amavasya is not advised. Urgent travel, calling on elders, and going for interviews can be done after offering propitiatory worship.

Good Dates: November 12 and 14.
