On the royals

DID you know that one-fourth of the entire Rolls Royce production between 1912 and 1946 was shipped to India or that special cars were custom-built for the erstwhile Maharajas of India? For SHARDA DWIVEDI, these facts became a source of fascination as she sat down to research for her book The Lives of Indian Princes. Her interest in the subject grew and she "decided to do something about it". The result is a stunning visual compilation of startling facts of the peccadilloes of Indian royalty and their obsession with their vehicles. Dwivedi who collaborated with Manvendra Singh of Classic Cars to produce this book said the most difficult part was sourcing material from the archives of various maharajas. "It was also at times difficult to authenticate the facts since so much had happened so long ago." Undaunted, Dwivedi pursued and has, indeed, come up with a royal collection.
