Mansingh's concerns
S. SUBRAMANIUM
SHE is one worried lady. SONAL MANSINGH cannot understand why Indian youth are so disinterested in their traditional art and culture. In order to try and bridge this gap, she has been organising the Jiwan Pani Memorial Festival for the last six years. Said Mansingh, "There is a urgent need today to assess the influence of western culture on the youth." She said that, unlike the West where even today there were young people interested in ballet or poetry or other classical dance and music forms, in India there seemed to be a huge shift in interest. Worried that it may lead to a total loss of our heritage and "rich culture", Mansingh said that it was with this in mind that she organised this particular festival. "Through this I try and assess the impact of Indian art and culture," said she.
