MOON SIGNS

Is it proper for a wedding to be performed when Jupiter and Venus have set (Asthamana Kala)? If not, is there any remedy?

Sambasiva Sethuraman, Thanjavur.

RIG Veda is represented by Jupiter and Yajur Veda by Venus. Persons belonging to these Vedas are advised not to perform Upanayanam or a wedding when the respective planets are in Asthamanam. Some texts say that the first seven days and the last seven days of the asthamanam period are to be avoided. But if strong Jupiter favours the Muhurtha Lagna, and there are malefics in three, six and 11 from the Lagna, the dosha can be treated as nullified. Details of remedial measures should be obtained from the family priest and astrologer.
