A painter talks

THE HINDU PHOTO LIBRARY

HE has the convictions of a Sufi. Painter MANJIT BAWA abhors violence. His paintings are a mirror image of his gentle views where he does not believe in aggressive activism. The only surprising element in these perfectly balanced works are his use of bright hues that seem to linger in the mind. For Bawa, life is all about a peaceful co-existence. At a recent exhibition of his works, Bawa said that he hated violence and the more he was confronted with violent situations, the more he went to an inner world ... my works are thus about introspection. All religions talk about brotherhood and compassion. I only want to spread the message of peace and harmony." Bawa said he did not believe in being an activist. "Life is about beauty and subtlety. With so much love and compassion where is the place for activism or the need?" said he.
