Rabbi's music

WHEN radio jockeys aired a hitherto-unknown singer, little did they know that his voice would raise a storm of appreciation. RABBI SHERGILL, the Sikh singer from Delhi, suddenly found himself catapulted to fame after years in the wilderness. For a teenybop audience besotted with soul and R&B, Shergill's haunting voice in "Bulle Shah", a Sufi number, seemed to pull their heartstrings. The rest, as they say, is history and today Rabbi is a household name.

Now Rabbi said he is ready to move on. "It's good to be appreciated but I think it's time for me to do something different," he said at celebrations to mark the 1,00,000 sale of his previous album, "Rabbi".

He claims "Tere Bin" (as his next album is tentatively titled) will be different. "It's nice to be recognised with yells of `Bulle Shah', but I'm ready for a change."
