Famous tribute
Apropos of Shashi Tharoor's article on Einstein(Magazine, July 3)I wish to point out that Einstein's famous tribute to Mahatma Gandhi was not paid at the time of his death but on the occasion of his 70th birthday in 1939.The full and correct text is published in Out of My Later years, New York Philosophical Library, 1950.

What makes Einstein great is neither the depth of his research which continues to have far reaching influence nor his published papers, but his earnest desire to integrate science and religion for the sustenance of world peace. This is clearly brought out in the article "Was there such a one as this?" (Magazine, July 3).
