Landmines in schools
The biggest problem faced by leading schools is the perpetual dearth of qualified and competent teachers. Moreover the attrition rate is also quite high. Only a phenomenal increase in the pay packets of competent teachers will help solve the problem to some extent. Until then, it will be a tough task to get rid of the "Emotional Landmines" (March 19), as described by Dr. S. Mohan Raj, from the educational institutions.

Movies are to be blamed for birth of violent patterns in the child. Another factor is that nuclear families often don't have room for the child's emotional development. A child needs social interaction for a well-developed personality. Socially productive activities will help prevent deviant behaviour.

In today's context the article was timely. It should be an eye opener for teachers and parents. Bringing back the erstwhile Gurukulam may help in relieving the situation. The teachers and parents should work jointly for an "emotional investment" in the child.
