True warning
With reference to "Look for the warning signs" (June 18) more than Dr. Padmavati's analysis, the picture with placards carried by children tells the story. Parents have to explain that they do not have to compete with others (for marks or grades), they can achieve excellence in studies and learning by competing with themselves (improving each day like an athlete or a sportsman does in his or her activities).

The two articles under Healthwatch impressed me. The psychiatric disorders described by the doctor are exhaustive and the readers stand enlightened as to how to tackle such issues. Besides the first aid kit suggested is a must in every household.

The article was truly a warning and an eye opener for parents who force their wards into studying hard to achieve the dreams of the parents and not of the child. The minds should be guided tenderly; their moods be given priority not the parents' superiority.

Dr. Padmvati has alerted the parents and well wishers of teenagers who have suicidal tendencies. However this being a sensitive subject it is better to adopt a policy of "less said the better". For, in the process of quoting illustrations and instances it becomes more counter productive as those with such tendencies may get ideas.
