Culinary intricacies
Pallavi Aiyar's article "Gastronomic challenges" (August 20) was a real treat. For the Chinese who consume everything, food is not a matter of survival, but a status symbol and a religion. The extravagance shown by some elite Chinese in food matters seems odd in a country where famine is a regular visitor.

The article on Chinese delicacies was very well written right from the catchy introduction. It is interesting to see how a country uses its unique ways for economic development.
