Cinema of the middle class

Hrishikesh Mukherjee's biggest achievement was successfully uncovering the face of the vast Indian middle class (A touch of realism", September 3). He understood its nuances and depicted it with great skill. The heart of his films and his philosophy in life still remains relevant — everything in life can be made easier with a bit of laughter.
