Hero or deity

With reference to "Gods of Clay, men of craft" (November 5), in conclusion Srivatsan says he does not find the name Karuppusamy among the Hindu pantheon of Gods. I would suggest that he looks up Social Life of the Tamils by N. Subramanian. Lastly, oral historians near Melur, seldom figurate Ayyanar. Ayyanar is simply the Horse itself. The Local Hero is beside this main deity. More interesting subaltern political relationships can be uncovered if one studies Tamil social order rather than stereotypical political science research into Tamil Nadu's political order.
