Sad reading

"Poet as fishmonger" (November 12) made sad reading. Of what use are awards if they do not bring the recognition the poet deserves.Ironically his "poems born out of fire" could not keep his hearth burning.

Nirmala A.R.,
Chennai

It is shocking that a poet is forced to sell fish for his livelihood. May be if he had been writing in English things would have been different.

Kartar Singh,
Sirsa

Isn't there a single scheme that can mitigate the plight of intelligent people like Pavithran by giving grants that will help nurture their talent?

S.S. Venkata Subramanian,
Chennai

Pavithran Theekkuni is great poet with a human touch. The article could have carried a few lines from his poems or at least mentioned a few of his works.

R. Renjith,
Bangalore

A very touching article. But Pavithran's plight is not surprising in a country, where the poor are becoming poorer. Pavithran is one those rare few who fight to earn their livelihood.

Shailesh Kumar
Bangalore
