For a good cause
DESPITE the debate, celebrity endorsements are now in keeping with the culture of giving back to society. Not to be left behind in this cause celebre are Bollywood's own. The latest entrant is actor RAHUL BOSE who has decided to put his money where his mouth is. Bose has set up an NGO called "The Foundation" with two other like-minded friends. They hope to be able to overcome "discrimination of any sort: be it men or women." Said Bose, "There is a plethora of agencies but I've usually found that it takes time to find the right one if one wants to do something. Also I have to be sure of their political leanings." It was with this in mind that Bose decided to take on the initiative. The first project will be to fund the education of children from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Ask him why and he replies: "I noticed a physiological and emotional gulf with the rest of the country. Children there deserve to be part of the mainstream society, through education." Bose was clear that the follow up would be possible only after a very strict monitoring of these children's progress. Just in case there were any doubts of the effect of celebrity endorsements, Bose sets the record clear, "If my connection with the film world helps me raise more funds to help a cause I have no qualms in using it." And like the meticulous planner he is, he's got the hours worked out to the T six to acting, three to rugby and three for social activities.
