Religion and patriotism
"The tenable patriot" (December 3) comes at a time when the whole world appears to be divided not into nations, but into religions. Politicians are turning religion into a powerful weapon for mass destruction for personal gain. Religious leaders should appeal to the people to restrain from violence and invasion in the name of god.

Today everyone talks about patriotism. Some view it in the sense of caste and religion and others take it in the sense of language and land. But few people know the real meaning of patriotism. After 60 years of independence 40 per cent of our people live below the poverty line. Farmers are forced to commit suicide; dalits are being killed and politicians are playing the pathetic game of politics. If we are able to tackle all these problems and bring happiness to our people, it would be real patriotism.

Religion unites, not divides. Every religion has a rich culture, custom, heritage and tradition, and if they are included in the school curriculum across the globe, children will not develop hatred or intolerance towards other religions.
