Heaven on earth

Indrani Dutta's "Serene Heights" (December 24) brought to fore the nostalgic memories of my hometown Almora. Mayavati Ashram is a heaven on the earth. I hope those who manage it do not fall prey to the lure of "tourism boom". Almora was a quiet town only till a few years ago. Now that the town has "developed", it is impossible to walk on the road due to increase in vehicles and the resultant pollution. Places like Mayavati, Binsar, Chaukori are the clean lungs of the remainder of my home.

V.K. Joshi,
Lucknow

The write up on Mayawati Ashram did not mention the correct geographical location of the place. Mayawati is near the town of Lohaghat in the Champawat District on the eastern most corner of Uttaranchal. It is about 100 km away from the nearest railway station Tanakpur on the North Eastern Railways.

Dr. Anil K. Joshi,
Ranikhet, Uttaranchal
