Technological renaissance
With reference to "New Frontiers" (December 24) The Internet as a platform for "personal publishing" shows the "technological Renaissance" in our society. By combining our own creativity with this technological Renaissance, we can use it in a more constructive way such as raising general awareness on social problems as foeticide and child labour instead of merely using it for downloading B-grade movies or Aishwariya Rai's interviews.

Regional languages play a vital role in disseminating information in countries like India. Here people also read a regional language newspaper, in addition to an English one. TV channels in regional languages have succeeded in remote areas rather than English channels. In such a situation, citizen journalism or self-broadcasting, through Internet portals like Youtube, may not be able to penetrate non-English speaking countries. At the most they may be successful in countries where English is understood by the majority.
