Protect the tiger
"A future for the tiger?" (January 28) was very informative, as it talked about the importance of balance in prey-predator relationship and the adoption of new scientific technologies to aid conservation. Tigers too are the beautiful creation of nature and have a right to exist. So, we must become their voice and work in synergy to protect them.

It is indeed a noble effort to integrate efforts to find causes for the decline in tiger population. Such measures will go a long way in restoring balance in food chains and ecology. It will bring to light the nexus of corrupt elements in poaching. It is imperative we make efforts to save our national animal. The government needs to be proactive for effective enforcement of tiger protection measures.

The article on the majestic tiger was illuminating. For a few years, only genuine naturalists/researchers should be allowed inside important tiger sanctuaries. Once the tiger population reaches a comfortable figure, well-informed and briefed tourists can be allowed. Committed officials should be posted in the parks.

The article on the Nagarahole National Park was excellent. The forest department of Karnataka deserves praise for its work in preserving the tiger population within the sanctuary.
