SIGHTINGS

For the right reaction

IT'S seven long years since he last directed a film. But that does not faze VIDHU VINOD CHOPRA. Known for his maniacal commitment to perfection on the sets, Chopra said he'd rather wait for the right time to get the right reaction. "Like it took me nearly eight years to fix Mr. Bachchan's beard." But in the meantime Chopra has been busy writing and the resounding success of the "Munnabhai" series, "Parineeta" and "Parinda" helped him grow more as a writer. "I don't like to be slotted," said Chopra. "My work cannot be defined or branded and none of my movies has anything in common with each other. With `Eklavvya', I feel that this has to be my best so far. I had a team of extremely committed actors and I know that I cannot work with anyone who is less committed than me." While Chopra is not against film awards, he said he did not attend a particular ceremony because for many years a tobacco company sponsored the show. "Now I have serious problems with that. Tobacco kills far too many people and I'm not comfortable with that."
